How to Pick Christmas Ornaments That Hang Without Fuss
Check what hangs the ornament
Start with the hanging part named in the listing, such as a string, rope, ribbon, cord or hook. A part that comes in the box saves a trip to find one, while a part that is already attached saves time at the tree. Check whether each ornament has its own part, or whether one part must serve the whole set.
Look for a ready to hang note
A listing that says ready to hang or easy installation tells you setup is quick. Pre-strung ornaments hang at once, while a rope that must be threaded and tied takes an extra step. Read the hanging note before you buy, so setup matches the time you have.
Match the size to the branch
Size shapes how an ornament hangs and how it looks on the branch. A 2 inch bell hangs well on a small branch, while a 5.5 inch angel needs a branch with room to spare. Large snowflakes at 5 to 7.5 inches work best where they can hang free.
Pick a shape that hangs straight
Round balls and bells hang straight on a string, while snowflakes and angels need a loop at the top to sit right. A ribbon on top or a hole at the top helps a shaped piece hang the way you want it. Check the top of the ornament in the listing before you choose.
Check the build before you hang
A sturdy build matters once the ornament is on the branch, since it may be knocked or moved. Look for words such as sturdy, durable or shatterproof in the listing, and note the material too. A soft felt piece and a hard plastic piece hang in different ways, so pick the build that suits your tree.
