Christmas Ornaments Long Term Review looks at durability features in the listing, not years of ownership. The picks below cover shatterproof plastic, hard plastic, metal and wood, and each set lists a hanging part. Since the sets mix materials, you can pair plastic balls, metal stars and wooden ornaments on one tree.
We looked at listing details for material, design, count and hanging parts. We scored each set from its own listing, and we left out claims from another set. Read more in our editorial policy, or see our main best christmas ornaments guide for more choices.

How to Judge a Durable Ornament From Its Listing
Look at the Material First
Metal, wood and shatterproof plastic each hold up in a different way on a tree. A metal star keeps its shape, while a wooden ornament resists scratches. Pick the material that fits the way you decorate.
Count the Pieces in the Set
A set with many pieces fills a large tree, while a set with fewer pieces suits a small tree. Work out the branches you want to cover before you choose. A larger set also gives you spares for next year.
Check the Size for Your Tree
A small ball suits a mini tree, while a larger ball stands out on a full tree. Read the listed size and picture it on a branch. Choose a size that fits the branch you plan to use.
Look for a Hanging Part and a Box
A string, a rope, a cap or a hole each hangs in a different way. A box helps you keep the set together after the season. Check the included parts in the listing before you hang the set.
Store the Set After the Season
A set that stores well keeps its shape for the next holiday. A box, a cool dry place and a gentle touch each help a set last. Keep the pieces together so none go missing.
